Lahore Fort
During the Mughal period Lahore became an
important provincial capital. Jalal-ud-Din Muhammad Akbar built the
present brick masonry Fort on earlier foundations in about 1566 AD.
Nur-ud-Din Jahanjir and Shahab-ud-Din Shah Jahan constructed palaces in
the Fort. The Fort measures about 427 meters by 335 meters excluding the
moat and the northern fortification wall which were added later, in the
time of Ranjit Singh.
